Dell Latitude Z First Laptop With Wireless Charging

Posted by admin on Monday Nov 30, 2009 Under Gadget, Laptop

dell-latitude-zWith the Latitude Z, Dell claims to be the first with a laptop capable of charging without wires. Using what’s basically a larger version of the Palm Pre’s inductive charger, the Z draws power wirelessly when planted on a laptop stand that also double as the power transmitter. According to Dell, charging times should remain similar to the traditional wired setup. So let’s assume a 2-3 hour wait?

Another key feature of the Z is the use of secondary hardware to support a touch-sensitive-driven instant-on mode. Great news, especially since previous incarnations of Dell’s instant-on modes were basically misnomers, as their reliance on the main CPU and motherboard meant longer startup times.

According to CNN, the Latitude Z represents Dell’s attempt to establish a wireless peripheral connectivity ecosystem. Aside from power, there are also plans to come out with inductive connectors for monitors and other devices.

The report’s glowing insistence that Dell is actually innovating smacks of friendly journalism. But at least it’s founded on truth, given that Dell’s known for checking out what the competition does and finding cheaper and more efficient ways to do it.

The Latitude Z, with it’s thin profile (14.5mm at the thinnest) and beveled back-end, should be available for corporate customers soon, with a starting price tag of $1999.

Hallods F43 : First 1280×720 PMP

Posted by admin on Monday Nov 16, 2009 Under Gadget

A lot of new phones and PMPs are claiming to be HD or can output 720p but this is the first to actually have a 720p 4.3”screen.

We’ve looked at the Zune HD and the Archos 5 in the past, both very good PMPs that can output 720p to your TV. The F43 itself has a 4.3” screen with a resolution of 1280×720 and has HD video support so you can watch sharper, clearer videos on the go.

It has 8GB of internal storage(not much for HD) but this can be extended via microSD. The F43 will play MP4, FLV, H.263, AVI and DivX files so its covering most bases but it lacks the “apps” ability of the other top PMPs.

Only available in Japan at the moment we’re unsure as to when it will or if it will be released over here. However our friends at Akihabara have said you’ll be able to pick one up from importer GeekStuff4U.

New Samsung Armani OLED Phone

Posted by admin on Tuesday Nov 10, 2009 Under Gadget, Mobile Phone

samsung_giorgio_armani_sphw8200_1540x444_thumbWe’ve had a couple of these out in the past alongside the LG Prada phone, this is the phone for all the designer brand orientated of us who care not for gadgetry and specifications and just want style, class and above all looks. That’s exactly what the Samsung Armani phones deliver. The full details won’t be released till later but we’ve picked up on a leak on what to expect.

Not fully up to spec with the latest smartphones it still packs plenty of goodies. A 3.1” OLED(yum) touchscreen and a 5MP camera the Armani also has tucked away a T9 keypad for quicker texting. It also sports a microSD slot and HSDPA for your fast connection. Lets face it though if you’re still reading this the last paragraph was of no interest to you as you’re probably still drooling over the Armani name.

Frighteningly similar in spec to the Instinct HD(USA only Samsung) but much better looking, this phone is for all fashionista wannabe’s.

Sharkoon SATA QuickPort adds USB 3.0 support

Posted by admin on Wednesday Sep 23, 2009 Under Gadget

sharkoon-usb3-dock_frontSharkoon decided to dive into the blossoming SATA HDD Dock game just over a year ago, and now it’s making the biggest leap ever for the cult classic-of-a-device. The latest and greatest SATA QuickPort now has USB 3.0 support, meaning that whatever SATA hard drive you slam down into it can be connected to your PC at USB 3.0 speeds. ‘Course, you’ll need a PC that’s actually up to that very task, so it makes sense that the company is simultaneously launching a PCI expansion card that adds USB 3.0 capabilities to any desktop made in the last decade. Best of all, both of these are making their way out across the pond for €49.99 ($75) and €39.99 ($60), respectively, so you folks who make Malta your home can now brag about one more thing you’ve got going for you.

Palm Pre Pre for $99.99

Posted by admin on Tuesday Sep 15, 2009 Under Gadget, Mobile Phone

Pre has fallen in preice to the point, where its hard to imagine someone will walk right pass it and go to find a better deal. I mean if you are in market for a smartphone, not a phone monster or a semi-PMP but a day-to-day smartphone that will organize your appointments, frends, colegues and applications into one, Pre for 99.99 is a bargain of the century. Details follow.

plam-pre-99-dollarsMajor Palm news at the moment are that Palm Pixie is comming pretty damn soon and Pre is making its way to Europe. I don’t even know which one of these made it fall under a hundred, but since it did, even dispite you are limmited to a compatible plan with it, this price fall deserves a good check up. And don’t think Palm is playing a trick with us – Pixi will not be a better phone than Palm. In fact, Pixi is an underpowered Pre – has smaller screen, no Wi-Fi, slower processor and smaller camera. I just wonder how much cheaper will it be?

Microsoft recovers ‘most, if not all’ Sidekick customer data

Posted by admin on Thursday Aug 20, 2009 Under Gadget

15oct09_skickzSteve Ballmer must have busted out his secret stash of magic dust, as Microsoft has just come out with the announcement that it has recovered “most, if not all, customer data” that was lost during the recent Sidekick debacle. Following the wildly embarassing fiasco attributed to a “system failure that created data loss in the core database and the back-up,” T-Mobile and Redmond have “rebuilt the system component by component” and now promise to restore data to affected users in the most expedient fashion possible. Guess that means you won’t be getting $100 from T-Mobile for losing your Tetris high scores after all.
